Day 2

Last Thursday I had a meeting with one of my English professors to go over a paper I had written.  He asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I told him I wanted to be a High School English teacher.  He proceeded to get a huge smile on his face and he told me I had made his night.  He then began to praise me for my work which has never happened to me before and said I had the qualities a good teacher should have.  I feel like I barely know the man yet his words were genuine.

He then went on to tell me that he would like to be my mentor.  He wanted to help get me into my program, my Masters program, and eventually a job out there in the real world.  He gave me free range access to all of his files and lesson plans and we talked about my future.  I haven't been that excited about growing up in a long time.  I felt "revived" in a sense.

So I decided he deserved my appreciation and therefore I wrote him a thank you.  I thanked him for his genuine interest in my life and his willingness to mentor me.  I also thanked him for his incredible lectures.  Each time I leave his class I feel like I can conquer the world one poem at a time.  His love for literature seeps through his lectures and he has shown me that you never stop learning no matter how old you are or what position to hold.  I feel honored to be his student and I can't wait to build a better relationship with him throughout the coming years.

Thank you Steve Walker for helping me recognize the simple joys in my life.
